Families who have discovered their baby may be born with a life-threatening condition do not have to face this experience alone.
Edmarc’s perinatal program – Bridges of Hope – has been providing services at no cost to families for over 20 years and strives to help a family journey through pregnancy, birth, and potential death, while honoring both baby and family through:
- Emotional support for all members of the family
- Memory making activities
- Birth plan assistance
- Community resource assistance
- Assistance in transitioning home after birth
- Bereavement support and funeral planning
- Volunteer services
Patient & Family Support
Edmarc’s medical social workers can help families cope with the many conflicting emotions of experiencing a medically complex pregnancy. The social worker can share ideas and support the family in planning for their baby’s birth, help facilitate memory-making opportunities, and provide on-going supportive counseling to the entire family prior to and following the delivery. In addition, social workers can help identify resources that may ease some of the family’s financial burdens. Medical social workers can also advocate on behalf of the family and attend hospital care conferences.
Nursing
Nursing staff is available to help answer medical questions about the baby, attend hospital care conferences, and facilitate admission to Edmarc’s home health or hospice program if the baby is stable enough to come home from the hospital after birth. The same medical social worker will continue to care for the family after transition to our home health or hospice program.
Bereavement
Edmarc’s team will continue to support the family in the event of a bittersweet goodbye. The social worker can help the family in planning their baby’s funeral and assist with creating precious keepsakes. After the death, the bereavement program director and the family will design an individualized support plan that will meet each family member’s specific needs. Edmarc is able to offer the following bereavement services: individual and family grief support, support groups for parents and siblings, an annual remembrance service, and a bereavement camp.
“Eva gave us so many gifts in her short time with us–gifts of gratitude, patience, and faith. And Edmarc’s support helped us fully embrace Eva’s life and legacy. We are forever grateful to their team!”
