What Happened at Edmarc in March 2015

What a month March has been; from the Spring Fling, to fundraisers, to Easter basket deliveries, our staff and volunteers have been very busy! United Way

Did you know that Edmarc is a United Way agency?  Designate Edmarc during your companies United Way Campaign and your money will be used to support current programs!  Today, Edmarc cares for over 70 children in our clinical program; we could not do it if it were not for the support of individuals like you!

There are so many generous donors in our community but we wanted to extend an extra special thank you to The Christopher Johnson McCandless Memorial Foundation, Birdsong Charitable Foundation, the Norfolk Rotary Charities and The Bennett’s Creek Sertoma for their amazing support.

On March 17th through March 19th, Pat Garvey, Vice-Chair of the Edmarc Foundation Board of Trustees held the 16th Annual Christine Garvey Memorial Soccer Tournament benefitting Edmarc and Beyond Boobs.  The Tournament is done in loving memory of Pat’s wife who lost her battle with breast cancer.  The Garvey family recently found out that their daughter, Kate also has breast cancer.  The tournament raised almost $8,000 that will be split between Edmarc and Beyond Boobs.  Special thanks to Pat, the Kiwanis Club of Poquoson, and all the volunteers that made this event so successful!

During the month we celebrated some pretty special people!  March, is Social Work month.  Edmarc is blessed to have 2 full-time MSW’s Brittney and Abbey but, we have Sonja who is interning with us as well.  These women work hard to make sure our families get the care they deserve!11110576_10153147213281469_4303347779717872378_o

We also celebrated Dorothy, our Assistant Director’s 15 year anniversary this month!  Dorothy has been in important part of this organization and we are thankful to have her!  Thank you Dorothy, for the countless hours you have spent to make sure our families get what they need!  We love you!!!

Mark Hargrave ran in the Shamrock 5K and raised over $3,000 through GoFundMe in honor of his son, Reid!  To Mark and the entire Hargrave family, thank you so much for your love and support!  You each hold a special place in our hearts!

We would also like to take a moment to thank the Virginia Beach SCA for holding a dodgeball tournament benefiting Edmarc!  The tournament raised over $3,000 to support our mission!  It’s about kids giving to kids!

10818332_10153100278846469_6647650738805350198_o On March 21st we held our Annual Spring Fling!  This family event is a chance for Edmarc families to come and enjoy each other’s company and most importantly, have fun!  We would like to give a special thanks to KPMG and Chick-Fil-A for sponsoring the event!  The Air and Space Museum even made nitrogen ice cream!  There was a bounce house, an egg hunt, the Easter bunny, Chick Fil-A Cow and plenty of games!  It is safe to say, that fun was had by all!

11080929_10153136125351469_7190909598822696286_nThe community of Hampton Roads once again came together to make sure the Edmarc kids received Easter baskets!  We had a number of individuals, businesses, and groups create individualized Easter baskets for over 250 and we want to give a very special thank you to the Bennett’s Creek Sertoma, Virginia Beach Shag Club, and the Denbigh Kiwanis Club!  THANK YOU to each and every one of you that took the time to do this and to those that volunteered to organize and deliver the baskets!  We could not believe the response we got and are forever thankful!
