What Happened at Edmarc in November

What a month November was here at Edmarc!  We continue to be amazed with our staff and volunteers and the amount of entusiasm and energy they have; the month was jammed packed with fundraisers, special events, and speaking engagements.

gala-16-of-332The month kicked off in style with the 4th Annual Hope Gala…A Night in Disguise.  On November 5th supporters came together to celebrate the many hearts that have provided hope for thousands of seriously ill children throughout Hampton Roads.  The Granby Theater provided the perfect backdrop for the masquerade theme…it was what many are calling an enchanted evening.  It was the excitement which filled the room as 250 guests engaged in conversation and fun; the evening was nothing short of spectacular.  International Illusionist, Krendl & Company captivated guests with their spellbinding acts of magic, acrobatics, circ performers, aerialist, mimes, human statues and yes even a fire breather.  It really was some production!

As the evening progressed we came to the awards segment.  This year’s award recipients were The Miller Oil Foundation and the Capital Group.  It was only fitting because they best reflect the universal concept of philanthropy/volunteerism in its truest sense – serving as an inspiration to others.  Time and time again they have demonstrated considerable commitment to Edmarc in terms of time, amount of responsibility assumed, financial contributions and have made a notable impact by significantly strengthening Edmarc and lives of the children and families the agency serves.

We truly appreciate everyone’s support in helping make this year’s Gala a night to remember!20141109_1d40989hhi-res

Then on November 9th we held the Annual Day of Remembrance.  On this day, bereaved families from the Hampton Roads community and beyond joined together to honor and memorialize the children who have died.  The Portsmouth Women’s Club was the perfect venue to host such a special evening.  Heavy hearts and tears accompanied the beautiful stories and remembrances as families shared the wonder and joy that were their children. We truly appreciate the support of Baxter Simmons, Jr., Indian Creek Productions, The Portsmouth Service League, New Branch Community Church, local guitarist Kevin Turner, and professional photographer Bob Harper for helping us make this a special night for staff, Edmarc families, and friends.

United Way campaigns are in full swing!  Organizations all over Hampton Roads are working with their local United Way to help raise money to support the good work of partnering agencies.  If your organization would like to have a speaker from Edmarc come and share our story please contact the office at 757-967-9251. And please remember to designate Edmarc during your United Way Campaign this year!!!

Special thanks to Third Presbyterian Church, United Jewish Federation of Tidewater and Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing for inviting us to share our mission during their United Way Campaigns.
