What Happened at Edmarc in March

From fundraisers to family events, the month of March was full of activities for the staff and volunteers!

After several cancellations due to weather, the Tidal Waves Square Dance Club held their annual fundraiser for Edmarc on March 11th!  These folks raised nearly $900 to support our mission!  We truly appreciate their continued support over the years!  Special thanks to our amazing volunteer, Mary Cowling who stopped by to represent Edmarc.

981170_10153959451966469_8810938049892520803_oWe were even joined by our friends of the Portsmouth’s Police Department and Fire / Rescue division who joined in on the fun.  It was so cool, they brought squad cars, fire trucks, and memorabilia for our kids!  It was truly an amazing day; let’s just say the staff, volunteers, and our families will be talking about the 2016 Spring Fling for a long time to come!  Thank you to everyone who provided their time and talents to make this day so memorable!

All we can say is WOW!  We were overwhelmed with the outpour of our community support for Easter basket deliveries!  Organizations, companies, and individuals all over Hampton Roads graciously donated Easter baskets and supplies, helping us provide 235 Easter baskets to all the Edmarc children!  It is because of the generosity and support of our community that the children had something to smile about when they opened up each basket especially created with lot of love.  View More: http://stellarexposures.pass.us/springfling16You can only imagine the work that goes into making 235 Easter baskets.  We are grateful to a wonderfully talented group of Easter Bunny helpers; Pixie Jones, her family, and friends spent two days assembling baskets and event putting them in 20 routes!  Then with the help of more dedicated volunteers, Easter Bunny helpers delivered baskets throughout Hampton Roads, from Courtland to Virginia Beach and all the way to Yorktown!  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, to everyone who volunteered their time, talent and provided items to ensure our kids received Easter baskets this year!

12916158_10153977805671469_8413088133822532880_oThis month we were also a part of the Annual Christine Garvey Memorial Soccer Tournament.  This tournament was started by Pat Garvey and his family after his wife lost her battle with breast cancer.  It has become an annual event and is hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Poquoson along with the Garvey Family.  They have a lot of help and support from the Kiwanis Community to ensure each year the tournament goes off without a hitch.  This year’s tournament was a HUGE success and when it was all said and done, Edmarc received a donation of nearly $4,500!  We are especially grateful to the Garvey Family, the Kiwanis Club of Poquoson, and the many local Kiwanis Clubs in the area for their continued support over the years!

During the month of March we celebrated two very special individuals in our organization; Abbey and Brittney who serve as our Medical Social Workers/ Coordinators of Family Support Services.  These two ladies spend countless hours providing support to our children and their families.  They are very dedicated to our organization and we are so thankful to have them on our team!

The 2016 Gosport Arts Festival is right around the corner.  Mark your calendars for Mother’s Day weekend to visit  Olde Towne Portsmouth.  There will be music, food, carefully crafted artwork and a one-of-a-kind children’s area.  It is free and open to the public.  We look forward to seeing you there!  If you are interested in volunteering please click on the link and sign up today!
