Music has long been used to express emotions, tell stories, and cross all sorts of emotional and physical barriers. So the “Edmarc Barc,” created by The Addison Group marketing agency, seemed like a perfect way to share the story of Edmarc Hospice for Children.
The inspiration for the song came from “Wags the Dog,” a six-foot tall St. Bernard, who visits Edmarc children in their homes and attends special events. The song and dance routine debuted at the 2011 United Way “Dancing with Our Stars” Gala. Town E. Bear joined the fun too, dancing alongside ‘Wags’ and students from the Academy of Classical and Contemporary Dance studio.
The dance was choreographed with Edmarc kids in mind – utilizing many hand and arm movements which are easier for children who are bedridden or wheelchair bound. “We’ve seen how children respond to music and puppies,” smiles Debbie Stitzer-Brame, Edmarc director. “So the song is a way to touch families, siblings, and children, and to reach out to the community to let them know we are here to offer comfort and support in times of need.”
