Holiday’s at Edmarc – December 2017

December was such a joy-filled month at Edmarc. We have the most amazing staff and volunteers who seemingly have an endless amount of both enthusiasm and energy; the month was jammed packed with fundraisers and special holiday events.

The month kicked off on Saturday, December 2nd when The Real Estate Group held their Annual Morning at the Movies with Santa. Gary Lundholm, Steven Edwards, and the entire staff put on an amazing event, giving their clients, agents and vendors and opportunity to socialize, view a private showing of a popular movie and spend quality time with Mr. & Mrs. Claus. Clients of The Real Estate Group brought a new unwrapped toy to donate. When all was said and done, JES supplied a moving van to transport a giant load of toys back to Edmarc to share with our kids and their families. We truly appreciate the continued support of our TREG Family and their generous spirits.

The holiday celebrations continued on Friday, December 8th when Deep Creek United Methodist Church hosted and sponsored the annual Holiday Party for our Edmarc families. It was an evening full of fun, food and games for all to enjoy. Families could create a special ornament, and kids could even spend special time with Santa Claus and bring home presents. We are so lucky to have these dedicated church members put on a great party for our kids 12 years in a row.

Then came Sunday, December 10th – our Annual Santa Run! Edmarc staff and volunteers brought cheer to 62 families all over Hampton Roads. With the help of the fire/rescue and police departments from all seven cities and Santa & Mrs. Claus, we were able to brighten the season for our Edmarc families. Not only did we have Santa & Mrs. Claus, but we also had musicians and carolers to round out the experience … plus photographers on hand to capture the moment. We could not have done it without our AMAZING community sponsors. These sponsors received wish lists, then shopped and purchased gifts for the entire family, eliminating a huge stressor for so many of our families. Once each list was checked and checked twice, volunteers wrapped and routed for the special delivery. We are forever thankful for the generosity of many.  THANK YOU!

That same day Southern Auto Group adopted 6 of our Peace by Piece families and held a special gathering at the Marriott in Chesapeake for them where they provided gifts for all of the family members.  We are truly grateful for everything Southern Auto has done for our Edmarc kids and families.

On December 14th the Nobleman took to the streets of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake to deliver gifts and cheer to ten more families. For the past 19 years, the Nobleman have sponsored Edmarc families and spread holiday cheer to families who need smiles and caring. Heartfelt thanks to all the Noblemen and Noblewomen.

Also on December 14th, we held our Annual Peace by Piece Holiday Gathering at the YMCA on High Street in Portsmouth. This was a chance for our community outreach bereavement program participants to join together in a social gathering. We are thankful for all of the sponsors and volunteers who helped make this event special!

This year Edmarc was extremely grateful to be recognized by the Allied Command Transformation as one of the charities to receive a donation from the HQ SACT Officers’ Mess. On Friday, December 15th, Edmarc was presented with a donation of $750 from Chief of Staff Air Marshal Graham Stacey.

The next day, Saturday, December 16th, volunteers delivered holiday food baskets to 70 families throughout Hampton Roads. Again, without the support of the community, this would not have been possible. Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

Throughout the month, we had many things to celebrate. Langley Federal Credit Union presented Edmarc with a $3,000 donation. Standard Calibrations designated Edmarc as the beneficiary of their holiday gathering once again. ABNB Federal Credit Union dropped by with not only a donation but so many adorable bears for us to give to our kids. For the past 5 years, their associates have been creatively dressing the stuffed bears in themed clothing for our nurses and social workers to take out on visits with the children. The Virginia Beach Shag Club came to Edmarc with boxes of candy to deliver on family visits. Then they came back a few weeks later with a financial donation too. We are so fortunate to have organizations support us with their financial resources, creative items we need and with volunteer hours.

Special thanks to our friends at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers for featuring Edmarc in their current Facebook campaign.
