What Happened at Edmarc in March

What a month March has been!  From celebrations, speaking engagements, to third party fundraisers, our volunteers and staff have been very busy!

This month we celebrated our social workers.  Abbey, Brittney, and our bereavement director, Sara all have their MSW.  Our social workers are there for our families during the most traumatic time in their lives.  Having a child with a life threatening illness is devastating and our social workers are there to provide vital support to families in need.   We are blessed to have such dedicated and competent clinicians and we were honored to celebrate them throughout the month.

March 15th and March 16th was the 18th Annual Christine Garvey Memorial Soccer Tournament.  Edmarc Board Member, Pat Garvey, his family and Kiwanis Family put on this soccer tournament to raise money for the fight against cancer.  The tournament was founded in memory of Christine Olsen Garvey who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1998.  Since its inception, the tournament has raised more than $154,000 to support local charities that care for people battling cancer.  We are honored to be one of two beneficiaries of this great event!

You do not want to miss our 21st Annual Edmarc Charity Golf Classic scheduled for Thursday, August, 17th at Cypress Creek Golfer’s Club in Smithfield.  For more information please contact Shantel at sthomas@edmarc.org

Did you know, Edmarc is a certified United Way agency?  Through designations, individuals in the community can donate to Edmarc through your local United Way Campaign.  Consider Edmarc this year during your companies United Way Campaigns; our staff and volunteers are available to come and speak to your employees about Edmarc and the important work we do for the community.

On March 25th, Lisa-Marie Janotka and her incredible family held an Easter Eggstravaganza at Four Paws Inn to raise money for Edmarc.  Lisa-Marie and her five children were first introduced to Edmarc in 2003 after her husband died suddenly.  After the loss, she and her children began receiving bereavement services through Edmarc’s Peace by Piece support groups for grieving children and teens.  They just wanted to give back to an organization that helped them through a difficult time and chose Edmarc as the beneficiary of the event.  It was a HUGE success.  Hampton Roads families came and even brought their pets!  There truly was something for everyone!  There were over 30 local vendors, an egg hunt, raffle and silent auction, food, and even a peanut butter pie eating contest for our four legged friends!  We truly appreciate the Janotka’s and their willingness to help raise money to support Edmarc.
