What Happened at Edmarc in July

The month of July was jammed packed with family events and speaking engagements.  Edmarc, truly has the BEST supporters.  Without the help of so many, we would not be able to provide the care and support our Edmarc families desperately need.

The activity started on July 8th when our dear friends at the YMCA Camp Silver Beach hosted our annual Edmarc Carnival!  It truly was a special day.  The kids and families played games, made crafts, and simply enjoyed spending time together eating pizza and snacks.  This year, our friends at the Portsmouth YMCA provided the space we needed so our families could enjoy the carnival indoors!  We truly appreciate everyone who helped make this day special for our families with a special thank you to Richard Wentz the CEO of the Portsmouth Y! Special thanks to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and the Kiwanis Club of Chesapeake for inviting us to speak at your meetings.  We truly appreciate all your support.

Our dear friends Walt and Billie McCandless of the Christopher Johnson McCandless Foundation stopped by to catch up.  They presented Edmarc with a check for $5,000!!  We are so grateful for our dear friends!

As many of you know, Edmarc was awarded a Building Excellence Grant from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.  This grant, provided 18 months of counsel from The Curtis Group to help Edmarc solidify our development capacity, build a sustainable development plan, help implement that plan to improve our operations and to develop our case for support.  It is hard to believe that 18 months has come and gone.  We are amazed by all the work our board and staff have accomplished and are excited for what the future will bring.  Special thanks to Wendy and Abby of The Curtis Group for helping us through this journey.  We also want to give a very special heartfelt thank you to The Hampton Roads Community Foundation for providing such a generous grant to help Edmarc build its infrastructure so we can be there for more kids in the future!

Did you know, Edmarc is a certified United Way agency?  Through designations, individuals in the community can donate to Edmarc through your local United Way Campaign.  Consider Edmarc this year during your company’s United Way Campaigns; our staff and volunteers are available to come and speak about Edmarc and the important work we do for the community.

We are excited to introduce the newest addition to the Edmarc staff, Addi Clemens.  Addi is our new Community Resource Coordinator.  She is no stranger to Edmarc, in fact, she has been a volunteer of ours for years!  Addi has a wealth of knowledge from previous volunteer coordinator positions and we are blessed to have her on our team.  If you would like to become an Edmarc volunteer please email her at clemensa@edmarc.org
