What Happened at Edmarc in December

What a month December was at Edmarc!  We continue to be amazed with our staff and volunteers and the amount of enthusiasm and energy they have; the month was jammed packed with fundraisers and special family events.

The activity started on Saturday, December 5th when The Real Estate Group held their Annual Morning at the Movies with Santa.  Gary Lundholm, Steven Edwards, and the entire staff put on an amazing event; giving their clients, agents, and vendors and opportunity to socialize, view a private showing of a popular movie, and spend some serious time with Mr. & Mrs. Claus.  Clients of The Real Estate Group brought a new unwrapped toy to donate.  When all was said and done, a moving van full of toys was brought back to Edmarc to share with our kids and their families.  We truly appreciate the continued support of our TREG Family and their generous spirits.

Special thanks to Tidewater CPCU, Standard Calibrations, and SKW Contractors for designating Edmarc as the beneficiary of their Holiday Gatherings!

We want to give HUGE shout out to Banker’s Insurance for presenting Edmarc with a check for $35,500!!!  This is money they won for their favorite charity during the Chubb Charity Golf Classic!  We were AMAZED at not only their golfing skills but, their kind hearts!  Thank you all so much!!!

Then on December 8th the Nobleman took to the streets of Virginia Beach and delivered Christmas gifts and food to 10 Virginia Beach families.  For the past 18 years, the Nobleman had sponsored Edmarc families and then one special event spread holiday cheer to families who need something to smile about.  Heartfelt thanks to all the Noblemen and Noblewomen!

The holiday celebrations continued on Friday, December 9th when we Deep Creek United Methodist Church hosted and sponsored our Annual Holiday Party.  It was an evening full of fun, food, games and even special time with the guy in the bright red suit, yes, Santa Claus himself!  We are blessed to have the church members put on a great party for our kids every year!

Then we woke up early on Saturday, December 10th to run in our 5K Tacky Sweater Run.  It was a beautiful yet chilly morning for a run.  But everyone sported their best tacky sweater for Edmarc and it was loads of fun.  For the past several years, Edmarc has been one of the beneficiaries of this event.  Special thanks to Ann Hupp and her crew at Mettle Events for including Edmarc in this important fundraiser!

The weekend festivities continued on Sunday, December 11th; it was our Annual Santa Run!  Edmarc staff and volunteers delivered Christmas to over 70 families all over Hampton Roads.  With the help of the fire/rescue and police departments from all seven cities and Mr. & Mrs. Clause; we were able to spread some much needed holiday cheer to each of our Edmarc families!  We could not have done it without our AMAZING community sponsors.  These sponsors received wish listed, then went out shopping and purchased gifts for the entire family; eliminating a huge stressor for so many of our families.  Once each list was checked and checked twice, volunteers wrapped and routed for the special delivery.  We                                                                                                                           are forever thankful for the generosity of many!  THANK YOU!!!

The fun didn’t stop there!  Southern Auto Group adopted 11 of our Peace by Piece families and held a special Christmas gathering for them where they provided gifts for the whole family!  We are truly grateful for everything Southern Auto has done for our Edmarc kids and families.

On December 15th we held our Annual Peace by Piece Holiday Gathering.  This was a chance for our community outreach bereavement program participants to join together in a social gathering.  We are thankful for all of the sponsors and volunteers who helped make this event special!

So as we are now reaching the half way mark in the month, the activity continued.  Saturday, December 17th volunteers delivered Christmas food baskets to over 70 families throughout Hampton Roads!!  Again, without the support of the community, this would not have been possible.  Thank you all so very much!!!

We wrapped up the holiday festivities on December 20th with a special holiday dinner for our Bereaved Parents Group.  Special thanks to Wesley and Nancy King for cooking up an amazing comfort meal for our Moms and Dads!
